Serbia's military exercises near the border with Kosovo and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić's recent statements about the military alliance between Croatia, Albania and Kosovo have brought attention back to security in the region.
In a media statement, Albania's Defense Minister, Ermal Nufi, emphasized that the country's security policy is fully harmonized with NATO and that citizens have no reason to worry.
"The Republic of Albania has its entire security policy in line with NATO, the strongest military alliance in the world," he said.
Nufi underlined that all of Albania's military doctrine and preparation is carried out in full coordination with the alliance and international partners.
"Albanian citizens should be assured that every action is in full coordination with NATO," the senior official said.
Regarding the situation in Kosovo, he emphasized the role of KFOR as a guarantee of security in the country.
"As long as we have a mandated force like KFOR in Kosovo, in accordance with United Nations resolutions, security remains guaranteed," he added.
The Minister of Defense also emphasized that the concerns created in the public or in the media do not change Albania's approach, which remains focused on fulfilling its obligations to NATO and cooperating with allies.
