The American Embassy in Tirana has reacted after the meetings of the special envoy of the USA for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, with Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.

It is learned that the focus of the discussions were the local elections of May 14, where Escobar requested the implementation of ODIHR's recommendations and the need for political parties and leaders to ensure that candidates fulfill the requirements of the law as well as the expectations of Albanian citizens for the integrity of up.

They also discussed US-Albania cooperation for regional and global priorities, including the rejection of the Russian invasion of Ukraine

"Gabriel Escobar, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs and Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, arrived today in Tirana for meetings with President Begaj, Prime Minister Rama, Foreign Minister Xhaçka and other leaders. Deputy Assistant Secretary Escobar will highlight the importance of the upcoming local elections in Albania, the need to implement ODIHR recommendations and the need for political parties and leaders to ensure that candidates meet the requirements of the law as well as Albanian citizens' expectations of high integrity. He will also discuss US-Albania cooperation on regional and global priorities, including rejecting the Russian invasion of Ukraine." it is stated in the announcement of the American embassy.

The next day, Escobar will meet Enkelejd Allibeaj at 10:00 a.m. and then he will meet the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, at the headquarters. The last time Escobar visited Tirana was in April of last year when he accompanied the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Karen Donfried.
