Just 2 days before the official start of the electoral campaign for the local elections that will be held on May 14, the special envoy of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, will visit Albania.
Escobar is expected to arrive in Tirana today and will stay until April 13. The senior American official will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
Meanwhile, the opposition is expected to meet with the commanding head of the Democratic Party Enkelejd Alibeajn, Gazment Bardhin and Jorida Tabaku, while as expected he will avoid the meeting with Sali Berisha, declared non grata by the USA.
Escobar's meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama is expected to take place around 4:00 p.m., while at 5:00 p.m. he will meet with President Begaj.
The last time Escobar visited Tirana was in April of last year when he accompanied the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Karen Donfried.
