Prime Minister Edi Rama has commented on the decision of the Strasbourg Court for the murder of Alex Nika during the Socialist Party protest on January 21, 2011, concluding that the murder was committed by the state and was not cleared by the justice system in Albania.
During a meeting with a group of socialists in Dibër, Rama said that "January 21" is a crime that justice delays, but that will not go unpunished. According to him, the state killed its citizens by order from "the top of the chain.
"The Court of Human Rights practically issued the decision yesterday, overturning the entire farcical process that was carried out in Albania on January 21. If the chain of command had been judged, it is not a question of civilians from the bullets that came out of the gun slots, there were countless bullets fired at the protesters who did not pose any danger to anyone. How is it possible that state rifles killed citizens of this state. As a result of the opening of this fire commanded by the top of the chain, this country did not see any kind of justice.
This decision of the ICJ is the most concrete embodiment of the expression justice may delay, but justice never forgets. January 21 is one of those crimes which may cause the delay of justice to be longer than delayed justice, but it is one of those crimes that never goes unpunished. It is a state crime, a crime by direct government order, and illegal. This decision is another peak in a new path that has just been opened for justice in Albania", said Rama.
