The Tirana court dismissed the lawsuit of the former chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, who accused the mayor Erion Veliaj of defamation during the campaign for the 2021 elections. The court ruled in favor of Veliaj regarding the statements made a year and a half ago , that Lulzim Basha has benefited from 4 new houses after the earthquake of November 26, 2019, as well as building without permission.

Dismissing Basha's lawsuit, the court seems to have found Veliaj's statements correct. Veliaj stated in 2021 that Lulzim Basha was built with four houses after the November 26 earthquake, benefited during the period of the earthquake disaster and that it built without a permit.

The media have published news that Basha has increased his wealth at a time when the country faced the wounds of the earthquake. Basha, during that time, abandoned his apartment near the "Arena Kombëtare" stadium and moved to a residence in "Long Hill". Also, the media have written about his villa in Qerret. Meanwhile, during the time he was mayor, he built an additional floor in the building where he lived in the center of Tirana, giving himself permission to build it.
