The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, has reacted to the death of Jani Rustemajt in prison, a few days after he was arrested for theft.

Asked by journalists after the government meeting, the minister said that accidents in prisons happen just like in everyday life, but the investigation with transparency is important.

"Regarding the case, as long as it is a matter that is being investigated, I refuse to talk about there being a cacophony of voices, not in custody, not at 313, not at the hospital... We have concrete answers for each case, which we have told the family members. As in everyday life, accidents happen there too. Transparency among family members is important."

The 27-year-old was arrested on April 12 for stealing sneakers and a carpet. Rustemaj was a drug user and had complications after the arrest due to addiction.

The police announced that on April 14, he showed health concerns while he was in the Security Block of the DVP Tirana and from the structures that deal with the security of detainees and arrestees, the medical emergency service was notified and after the help that was given to him, the condition of his has improved.

A day later, he was escorted to the premises of the Tirana Judicial District Court, where the security measure "Arrest in prison" was assigned to him.

On April 16, after the issuance of the order for the execution of the security measure by the Prosecutor, he was sent to prison 313, Tirana, as the police announced.

The authorities of prison 313 have not accepted to take him into custody due to the overcrowding in this institution and under these conditions he has been returned and placed again in the Tirana Security Block.

On April 17, the 27-year-old again showed health concerns and after the arrival of the health emergency, he was transported to the "Mother Teresa" hospital, where he was hospitalized.

On April 30, at Police Station No. 3, Tirana, the mother of the arrested person presented herself and filed a complaint, who raised claims about her son's health treatment.
