After the meeting, Prime Minister Edi Rama and EU High Representative Josep Borrel held a joint press conference.
Borrel described Albania as a community of values and security, adding that it has made a lot of progress in all sectors. He also thanked the head of the Albanian government for his commitment to finding an effective solution to the situation between Kosovo and Serbia.
"I have seen the support of the Albanian government and the people of Albania and during this time we have had a transparent and important dialogue and it is known how important Europe is for this country. Albania will go 100% in the EU, I see Albania as a community of values and safe. You can always come to the EU to get all the support you need and also the whole Western Balkans needs to have a security and continue further in this direction.
We have discussed the facilities in the Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue and Edi Rama has tried to find a solution to the situation. All parties in Kosovo and Serbia must de-escalate this situation and the EU has made a proposal that they must accept. There must be a solution to the situation, both sides agree. The situation requires an immediate intervention, thank you Edi for being here and all the support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue", declared Borrel.
On the other hand, Rama was grateful for the encouragement he received from EU representatives these two days in Brussels and hoped for a solution as soon as possible for the region, and especially for the Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue.
"Initially the meeting with the President of the European Council and other representatives, we are pleased that you encourage us and say such good words. We will continue along the path of reforms and we are very aware that we are ready for the next step, at the same time it was very healthy to share our opinions on something that is very important at the moment and you are working hard, which has to do with stability of the whole region and all the progress.
We are part of the region that has suffered a lot in the past, that cannot look back and where events are not always separate from each other. We cannot look only at our home, without worrying about what is happening around us, and the situation is not only about Kosovo and Serbia, but the whole region. Thank you for sharing more evidence or findings that we have made, I really hope that the idea of a high level conference is feasible to bring the teams of the two countries into the EU and not go out without reaching a solution to the whole situation , which should be acceptable to everyone. I am happy that the 3 policemen have finally been released and it is time for de-escalation because it is more and more urgent. Albania is committed to working with you and all our friends, we have many things to do.
