Ilirjan Celibashi, the State Election Commissioner, has not announced a decision regarding the request for the dismissal of Kreshnik Hajdari as mayor of Kuçova.
Celibashi has declared that he is in a conflict of interest, so he is withdrawing from decision-making, creating uncertainty with this stance.
"I consider myself to be in a conflict of interest, so I withdraw from this issue," Celibashi is quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Arben Llangozi, representative of the former candidate for mayor of Kuçova, Lefter Maliqi, said that Celibashi should be expelled because, according to him, he has taken a stance once on this issue.
"We cannot expect another decision from the same person," he is quoted as saying.
Kreshnik Hajdari has held the position of Mayor of Kuçova for two years, even though he was convicted by a final decision in July 2024 by the Criminal Court of Kosovo, for falsifying the decriminalization form.
On June 23, 1999, Hajdari was convicted by a final decision of the Court of First Instance of Ioannina for entering Greek territory without permission. At the time, he was 17 years old and as a minor, he was sentenced to re-education, but he had not declared this sentence by the Court of Ioannina.
On May 14, Maliqi asked the CEC to dismiss the current mayor, Kreshnik Hajdari. In a statement to the media, Maliqi warned that he would send the case to the Electoral College and even to the Special Prosecutor's Office with new charges.
