From the joint media conference with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi , Prime Minister Edi Rama , without pointing a finger, but with what appeared to be an indirect message for Serbia and Kosovo, requested that the political issues be resolved in bilateral talks and not hold hostage the plan of growth and the 6 billion euro fund of the European Commission for the Western Balkans.
" It doesn't matter what political problems we have with each other, we have to do this and all 6 countries of the region have agreed. Therefore, political issues should be discussed and resolved as bilateral problems. They are not reasons and will not be accepted by the EU for not realizing everything related to the free movement of people and goods. "
The Prime Minister did not fail to defend the positive steps with which, according to him, the Open Balkans contributed to regional integration, a process which marks for Rama the path towards the European Union for the 6 countries of the region.
" I want to tell you that all the efforts we have made in 10 years to move towards regional integration, through the new growth plan, must happen without political reason or reasons for not making an agreement. I want to tell everyone that when we talked time and time again how important it was to move faster through the regional journey, to get closer to each other with cross-border agreements on the movement of capital and people, it is now clear that if we had done more earlier we would be better off now. European integration proceeds through regional integration. Therefore, all the lies we have heard about the Open Balkans have emerged as lies. "
The head of the Albanian government emphasized that the new Growth Plan is a key platform to accelerate the entry of the Western Balkan countries into the EU and will make the process tangible for people.
To illustrate this, Rama referred to remittances and exactly the remittances from immigrants to their families in Albania and the other 5 countries, saying that half a billion euros will be saved by calculating transaction costs.
" All of us in the Western Balkans agree that the EU is not just doing business as usual but is going a step further to join us, to help us grow and integrate with a new growth plan that it is actually the result of our encouragement to be heard and understood, as far as our arguments and ideas are concerned. Thanks to this exchange of views, we have achieved this very important objective, to introduce into the traditional process something new, which is quite concrete and which can take us to another level much faster. I brought the example of the cost of financial transactions. In Albania, but also in all the countries of the region, we have many people who live abroad, and continue to help their families at home. For every money they send it is 6 times higher than the transaction cost between EU members. The increase plan will bring this cost to the same level as the member states. With this alone, we save half a billion euros, straight from the pockets of our citizens and our businesses. This is just one of the benefits from the growth plan, which gives us the opportunity to have the same conditions and processes as EU countries. "
