Albania will build camps for the reception of illegal refugees who arrive by boat on the shores of Italy.
The signing of the joint agreement was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama during an unannounced visit to Italy, where he was received by counterpart Girogia Meloni.
Rama said that Albania "is in debt" to Italy, for everything it has done over the years for our country, so it will offer this help.
Apparently, Meloni, who has been a strong voice against the wave of illegal immigrants coming to Europe but has not found support among the leaders of the European Union, has managed to convince Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Meloni said that part of the financing of the camps will be covered by Italy. It is still unclear what is the capacity of immigrants who will be sheltered in Albania, in at least one camp that will be set up in Shengjin, where they will wait until their application for asylum in Italy is accepted or not.
It is not known how many such centers will be established, but it is believed that there will be more than one, since Meloni has also stated that "Albania will give some territories".
"Italy is the main supporter for Albania to join the European Union. Today's agreement is very important. We are in Europe, we are a European country. We would not do this deal with any other country, with all due respect.
With a historical cultural change. To pay that debt to Italy, I'm talking about the first day we arrived on Italian shores. In other cases, if Italy calls, Albania answers," said Rama, among other things.
