Located in Brussels where he will participate in the Intergovernmental Conference, where among the discussions is Albania's membership in the EU, Prime Minister Rama spoke about the cooperation achieved between the socialists and the democrats.
Prime Minister Rama considers the agreement between the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party for Albania's membership in the European Union unprecedented in the history of world politics. He adds that the more they cooperate, the more a clear distance is created between the socialists and the democrats.
"If I were to say what I feel like saying, even though since the day the campaign closed I have refused, even to myself, to comment on the other side and especially on the bottle, the label and the product itself that the other side's bottle contains, then I would say that if this is cooperation, it is absolutely unprecedented cooperation in the history of world politics on my part, because the more I cooperate, the more the distance deepens between the DP and the so-called opposition, which is truly in a deplorable agony," Rama told Top Channel.
Asked further that he has been the head of the Albanian government from the moment of negotiations until the moment of improving Albania's European integration, Rama underlined that this is the dream of all citizens which is very close to fulfillment and for this he feels privileged.
"Integration is not my project, it is the historical mission of Albanians and all those who have desired that Albania belong to the world from which the sun rises, so I consider it a fortune and privilege that fell to me and the Socialist Party at this stage of the country's history, the burden and at the same time the opportunity to lead this process towards its crowning.
"We will leave no stone unturned to succeed, always with confidence and working with the awareness that every step we take on this path is not a step to escape from Albania and go to Brussels, Berlin, Paris or Rome, but a step we take to build within 28 thousand square kilometers of our Republic the European state of Albanians," Rama added.
We recall that in the parliamentary session held on May 14, the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party came together as rarely before, voting with 114 votes in favor and 1 abstention on the joint draft resolution on integration into the European Union.
How do you see this move of theirs and how do you respond to the rumors that you and Berisha are in agreement?
If I were to say what I feel like saying, even though since the day the campaign closed I have refused, even to myself, to comment on the other side and especially on the bottle, the label and the product itself that the other side's bottle contains, then I would say that if this is collaboration, it is absolutely unprecedented collaboration in the history of world politics on my part, because the more I collaborate, the more the distance deepens between the DP and the so-called opposition, which is truly in a lamentable agony.
You were the prime minister who negotiated the opening and advancement of the process. Do you consider European integration your most important political project?
Integration is not my project, it is the historical mission of Albanians and all those who have desired that Albania belong to the world from which the sun rises, so I consider it a fortune and privilege that fell to me and the Socialist Party at this stage of the country's history, the burden and at the same time the opportunity to lead this process towards its crowning.
