The Socialist Party has requested the deregistration of Sali Berisha's candidate for Shijak Municipality, Rezeart Tusha.
In the request that the SP submitted yesterday to the CEC, it is stated that Rezeart Tusha was deported from Switzerland in 1997, for possession of narcotics, and was banned from entering for five years.
But candidate Tusha himself opposes this. In an appearance for the media, he says that he submitted the decriminalization form this time as well, but also in the 2021 elections when he was a candidate for deputy. Rezeart Tusha says she was deported from Switzerland for violating her residence permit, not for drugs.
"As you may have seen, the media close to power have launched a series of attacks against me, out of fear of losing and they want to win at the table. They know what awaits them in Shijak. I have an offense in Switzerland for violation of residence permit. I said this in 2021. The General Prosecutor's Office checked me then and I got the green light to run. They are in vain, they will face me on May 14", said Tusha.
But the General Prosecutor's Office has said that in 2021 the candidate has not been fully verified because Switzerland has refused to provide information. The General Prosecutor's Office says that they are continuing the verification.
"At the General Prosecutor's Office, based on the request received from the Central Election Commission, the in-depth verification process for the self-declaring subject, Rezart Xelal Tusha, was registered with no. 49, year 2021, based on Law no. 238/2015" To guarantee the integrity of the persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions". In the framework of the verifications carried out, it turns out that the Swiss judicial authorities, through the Ministry of Justice, have refused to respond to the request of the General Prosecutor's Office for the provision of mutual legal assistance, because the information was not requested in the framework of a criminal process to the subject in question. Following the above, aiming to use all possible legal avenues for the administration of information that serves this process, The Decriminalization Sector has continued to carry out other actions for the full verification of the self-declaring subject. Upon their completion, the results of the verifications will be sent to the CEC", says the notice of the General Prosecutor's Office.
