The opposition protest called for March 15 against the government's decision to shut down Tik Tok will take place in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
The rally is expected to start in front of the government building at 7:00 PM.
Calls for protest were made by the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, following Prime Minister Edi Rama's decision to close the platform in Albania for 1 year.
"The act of blocking him for the fact that with TikTok, young people were criticizing and mocking Edi Rama is a brutal act, it is his intolerance towards different opinions," Berisha declared.
The closure of 'TIK TOK'
From mid-March, no one will use TikTok in Albania for a year. The Albanian government has decided to shut down the platform, which will start in a week.
After the Council of Ministers meeting, the Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu , who presented the decision, said that within a few days the Cybersecurity Agency will close the Chinese platform.
"We have decided to take temporary measures to avoid the negative impacts of 'TikTok'. We have conducted a wide series of consultations with 65 thousand parents interviewed in 1300 meetings. These are aspects related to the safety of children against platforms that have uncontrolled content. In these meetings, with the aim of also implementing the new action plan regarding the strengthening of mechanisms for preventing incidents that lead to physical violence, bullying or even 'online', parents have recommended the closure or restriction of 'TikTok'", the minister emphasized in her speech.
She added that the government is in constant communication with the TikTok platform to implement the necessary filters.
"Taking into account all the facts and elements directly related to the safety of children, we have recommended closing or restricting access to 'TikTok' for 12 months. A period that will allow us to take measures in coordination with 'TikTok' representatives. We are in communication with 'TikTok' regarding filters, age of access, parental control and necessary filters regarding all aspects of communication in the Albanian language. With these filters, we will also prevent the promotion of unwanted behaviors, which come through communication on the 'TikTok' platform," said the minister.
