Bill Clinton gave his first speech in Tirana. Excited, Clinton said that there are no words to describe the special reception that was given to him today by the Albanian people.
He thanked Prime Minister Edi Rama for the opening speech and the fact that he mentioned the contribution of the former American President to the liberation of Kosovo.
"Thank you! I am speechless! I think that if I had a very sound judgment, I wouldn't say anything. I am truly speechless! Prime Minister, ministers, guests and all the Albanian people who were part of this day, I want to thank you for this moment that I will treasure all my life. It's been over 10 years since my wife came here and I always asked her how she was doing because I always wanted to come, and I feel that even though I'm a private citizen without any public power, I can speak for the American people. Regarding this, for our political parties, philosophical differences, sometimes even our religious differences, we are committed to the freedom and future of Albania.
I am very grateful for what the Prime Minister said about Kosovo, he knows and many of you know that Hillary and I live in New York where there are many Albanians, I cannot walk down the street without seeing them. I was walking and passed by Albanian restaurants and people told me about the agenda here, so a week before I left. I also want to say thank you to the Prime Minister for his words about politics and my approach, which I followed together with Tony, for me it is rooted in what is in the political path. Chelsea brought his three children to us on the phone and reminded us of the whole point, when I hear a lot of things being said in America and the world that are intended to divide us, to justify a treatment that is unfair, when I saw it happen in Kosovo of Bosnia all those years ago, I saw it happen as a young man in my hometown, about children being denied school because of their race, how many times have I seen this in my very long life, it has never had anything to do with the truth, but has been done to gain power by those people who push the boundaries and think that God has created superior people. To the extraordinary youth here and the presence of women in this government, to the impressive young people who spoke, some of them bearing my name, I ask you not to be discouraged in the face of what is happening, because these problems are rooted in an impulse that is more as ancient as even our religious beliefs, there has always been a fear that the moment we go beyond, something bad happens. Again, see these children, great joy occurs when we open ourselves to the possibility that every single person can receive. as many times as I have seen this in my very long life, it has never had anything to do with the truth, but has been done to gain power by those people who push the boundaries and think that God has created superior people. Again, I find it difficult to say anything about what has been done today, the essential lessons of my life are not what I learned at university or on the wave of elections, I learned them when I was a little boy when I grew up watching people as they lived their lives and I have always felt that word and honor had a constant value for everyone. It's important to acknowledge that our differences matter and feel free to be able to listen to each other, but let's not forget that the only way everyone will be allowed to have their voice is if we strongly say that being human and humanity is worth more," said Clinton during the speech.
