The Balkan and European leaders are expected to meet in Athens on Monday, as the Greek Prime Minister has invited everyone except his counterpart, Edi Rama.
Albania was said to be represented at the presidential level, but the head of state, Bajram Begaj, declined the invitation saying he could not attend due to his busy schedule.
But the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reveals that the reason why Rama was not invited is what was already expected, the issue of the arrest of Fredi Beleri.
Diplomatic sources told Kathimerini that the Greek Prime Minister's decision is a diplomatic way to show not only Rama, but also other leaders of the Western Balkans, that Greece does not negotiate on issues of principle, such as respecting human rights since the case of Beler considers that they are being violated by Albania, writes the Greek newspaper.
The prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has also been invited to this event, but it is unclear whether he will go or not.
