Prime Minister Edi Rama says that Albania is ready to help Europe, regarding the crisis of immigrants from the Middle East, Africa and Asia, which is expected to worsen even more after the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Asked about this issue, in a joint conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and EC President Ursula von der Leyen, Rama said that Albania is not part of the Balkan route through which illegal immigrants pass, however it is ready to help with the capacities it has.
"We talked about it. I can't add more. What can I say?! We are not part of the Balkan road, in this respect we do not influence this phenomenon so much, for better or for worse. But as always we are ready to help. We have made all our history. Albania is the only one that had more Jews after the Second World War.
And no Jews were handed over to the Nazis. Then we have the experience of the drama of immigration from Kosovo. We had half a million refugees from Kosovo because they were forced to leave their homes and were persecuted by the Millosevic regime. We gave shelter to thousands of Afghans after the situation. We are ready to do it in the future considering our modest size and our limited capacities. It is a phenomenon that must be undertaken together", declared Rama.
