Dubai has become a paradise for lawbreakers from all over the world, including those from Albania.
Some of the most dangerous people wanted for murder, drug trafficking, fraud or other serious crimes remain in Dubai as the local authorities have a policy of not extraditing them anywhere in the world.
Interior Minister Taulant Balla said that he has discussed this concern with the general secretary of Interpol. He said in "Opinion" that in January he plans to go to Abu Dhabi to discuss the issue of extraditions with the authorities.
Balla said that the Albanian authorities, through the embassy in Abu Dhabi, ask for information from local colleagues, but they do not receive an answer.
"As for Dubai, for me it is a challenge, it is a challenge in terms of impunity. You can commit a crime and go and hide there. I have had a conversation with the Secretary General of Interpol, I will be in January to meet with the highest authorities of the United Emirates on this issue using Interpol instruments. There are also other elements such as the expulsion policy.
Contact with the authorities is made through our Embassy in Abu Dhabi, but as in other countries, the authorities do not respond. We have a list of wanted Albanians who are in Dubai", declared Balla.
