Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with the socialist assemblies of several units of Tirana this afternoon.
Taking as an example the Strasbourg Court's decision on the former director of RTSH, Thoma Gëllçi, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the prison sentence imposed on Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj was illegal.
Edi Rama: We do not want that while we want to become members of the European Union, while we want to have that name Albania there, the Dutch will come to us one fine day and say: "Look, we have a problem with Albania, because there is no longer a lack of will to fight corruption, but there is a lack of respect for human rights. Today, the Strasbourg Court declared the arrest without trial of the former director of Radio Television illegal. I do not know at all, not at all! And I do not have to comment on it, even if I did know, whether "he is guilty or innocent, the court has found him guilty". But how they found him guilty, how the court has found him innocent, this is another topic. Arrest without trial is illegal! And it is enough to read the Strasbourg decision to understand how much of these illegal arrests will be paid tomorrow by the Albanian taxpayer in the form of compensation.
Why? Why do you have to take the other person, put them in prison without a trial, to show that you are strong? To show that you are you and there is no one else here? Or to show that the prosecution and the court are the same thing as in communism? And this, more than for SPAK, is a bell that rings for judges. Judges are there to be fair, equal, impartial, independent, professional and so on and so forth. They are not there to side with the prosecutor. The prosecutor has his own job, the judge has another job.
And judges who make deals with the prosecutor in advance, or who are afraid of the prosecutor, the judges, and who agree to arrest and put people in prison without trial, are a problem. One person, not so much as. I'm telling you, they will be completely victims of arrest without prison, I'm talking about prison is a completely different thing and even the fact that it is a different thing is an argument to say that: -You don't have to take the other person hostage in advance. How did you file the charge, as a defendant? You filed a charge as a suspect! "Now, I doubt you. Come on, come inside with me, so I can look for proof that you are what I think you are?" But who are you?! Who are you?!
What about the 250,000 people who voted? What are they? Or are they useless?!
What about a contract with this millet, which should be implemented by an elected government, or is it useless? And who should follow up on all the 1001 cases and be responsible for the votes that the people have given? The prosecutor? Or Noci? These are not possible, and I am sorry for these, but we will not remain silent.
