"Alliance only with citizens" seems to no longer be the motto of the socialists for the May 14 elections.
General Secretary Damian Gjiknuri, in an interview for Klan Neës, does not deny the possibility of a coalition, although he emphasizes that it is still too early for such a decision-making.
"We definitely have partners, many social groups, associations that have felt the good governance of the SP, at local levels we will look to organize a part of the factors, we have not yet made a decision about the coalition, we will discuss this issue. I am convinced that we will have the greatest support of all the groups that want the good governance of this country. Everything is an option, everything is possible. Let's leave it to the process at the right time".
Gjiknuri shows a balance of municipalities that the Socialist Party can win.
"I think that the Socialist Party will win most of the municipalities. "Over 40 municipalities, the Socialist Party and others may be under discussion."
While the democrats will choose the candidates through the primaries, the SP is not expected to have any changes in the way they are selected.
"It is not in Prime Minister Rama's hands, even to tell the truth beyond what people judge, Prime Minister Rama does not even intervene in the lists of deputies, with special exceptions when it comes to national level figures. In general, it is a process delegated at the level of district leaders and SP structures from below, based on the will of the party membership".
Gjiknuri also has an answer for Sali Berisha, who claims that the socialists have started the process of manipulating the elections.
"It is an old song, often heard by the Albanian opposition, it is no longer a novelty for the citizens. It is the preparation of defeat and the justification of defeat".
Gjiknuri clarified why he abstained from the amendment for the opening of files, in the last plenary session.
"There was an abstention for an amendment that was made in the session that I was not aware of. I am not for absolute opening of files, I am for the opening of files to be linked to specific data, just as it is arranged".
As for the Electoral Reform, which has been moving at a slow pace, Gjiknuri says that the work of this commission will be spread over two phases, to address some more basic things, before the local elections.
