During a speech delivered this Wednesday at a meeting organized at the headquarters of the Socialist Party, Prime Minister Edi Rama warned of a catharsis in the Tirana municipality.
"The appointed leader has done everything she could in the conditions she operates. The need to legitimize the leadership of the Municipality is more urgent every day. It is enough to see the dramatic situation with public procurements that are at the most historic level, or the dramatic decline in the realization of investments. It cannot wait any longer. This, added to the necessity for a process of source catharsis, in the sense of the self-cleansing of the Municipality of Tirana, just as we did and are doing with other municipalities, which Tirana needs just as much, requires legitimization of the new leadership of the Municipality of Tirana, so that we do not have situations where public spaces are occupied by employees or leaders of local units, which is a terrible thing. And we will address it in the new law, in the new package that we will pass to the government, which also brings severe criminal punishment for those who are paid by citizens' taxes and who violate the law ," said Rama.
Among other things, he also spoke about transportation in Tirana, an issue for which he stated that citizens want solutions. Thus, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to improve this transportation not only in the center of Tirana, but also in its rural areas.
"Citizens also want solutions for the quality of urban transport in Greater Tirana, not only in the City Hall, that is, in the urban part, but also in the rural part, where there are serious problems with this work ," he said.
