Prime Minister Edi Rama commented today on the Municipal Council's decision to dismiss Erion Veliaj, while at the same time introducing the new socialist candidate for the new elections, Ogerta Manastirliu.

In the meeting with MPs and ministers, Rama criticized the opposition for the attacks and slanders he said were directed at Veliaj, but said that he does not comment on judicial processes.

Rama introduced Ogerta Manastirliu and expressed optimism about victory, according to polls conducted by them in Tirana.

"After 7 months without a mayor elected to office and also without a mayor convicted by justice in connection with the office, we were forced to take a debatable but mandatory step for the fate of the capital of Albania. The municipal council, to pave the way for new elections and the full restart of the machinery of the Municipality of Tirana.

Many things have been said and mumbled about this step, but it is not worth dealing with those who have had the sun set on their heads, nor with those whom the parliamentary majority is forcing to pass the program vote, as they are prohibited from presenting the program with the infamous methods of throat slashes and elbows in the Assembly hall, nor with those who failed to defeat Erion three times in a row with their media caricatures that today puff out their chests with the excuse of an anonymous letter to an opponent with tied hands and feet.

Whether it's the stalls and the lynching mirrors against him, or the justice process against him, these are not topics where we can intervene as a party. Our topic as a responsible party in the life of this country is to not take the capital of Albania and its affairs hostage indefinitely.

Our theme is to address without wasting time the increasingly desperate void in the Municipality of Tirana. The citizens of Tirana cannot coexist with a Municipality that is in disarray. In addition to all other tasks, let's start working on the new elections in Tirana. Where with the right candidate, with the right commitment we will get the right result. Even in the survey we have conducted in recent days specifically for Tirana, it is clear that the citizens do not have their minds on any candidate, but on the problems that require solutions," said Rama.
