Erion Braçe's denunciation: Albania-Kosovo oil smuggling, officials

MP Erion Braçe raised concerns in Parliament today about the hydrocarbon trade between Albania and Kosovo.

Braçe said that according to data for 2025, the import of hydrocarbons into Albania was around 609 million kilograms, or approximately 700 million liters, while re-exports to Kosovo reached 731 million liters.

He emphasized that almost a third of this re-export is carried out by just one company, which according to him raises doubts.

He spoke of a "smuggling history" between the two countries, which according to him may involve officials from both sides, in collaboration with private operators.

Brace added that smuggling affects the maintenance of high prices and asked fiscal institutions to intervene to stop this phenomenon.

"What worries me is what is happening with the re-export of hydrocarbons from Albania to Kosovo, which no one is talking about because those whom the gentleman protects are being harmed, and those whom I protect are being harmed. For 2025, the import of hydrocarbons was somewhere around 609 million kilograms, somewhere around 700 million liters. Re-exports to Kosovo are 731 million liters, with almost 1/3 being made by just one company."

I have strong suspicions that this oil does not go to Kosovo, this oil is traded within the country. A shameful history of smuggling between the two countries has involved officials from both countries who do this work with the same operators, collecting money there.

"Of course, smuggling is a very important element that keeps prices high. Low prices have no value for smuggling. This is a problem that our fiscal institutions must address in order to give a final blow to this story," said Brace.
