The chairman of PDIU, Shpëtim Idrizi, has expressed his opposition regarding two questions in the 2023 population census, related to ethnicity and religion.

Idrizi said in 'Opinion' that Greece is the country that has lobbied for these two questions to be included in the Albanian census.

Meanwhile, according to Idrizi, Greece does not recognize minorities in its own country.

"What we know is the pressure of Greece. And I have here the statements of Mitsotakis who say that we push the Albanian government to do the census by self-declaration. One who lobbied to include two questions in a statistical exercise.

Albania has a national registry of civil status. We register as soon as we leave the maternity ward. From here birth, death, passports, identity cards...

The census is a statistical exercise, so 35% of Albanians who are abroad do not participate. The lobbying to introduce these 2 questions is from one country, Greece.

While Greece is one of the countries that does not recognize minorities, Greece has not signed the framework convention that is imposed on us as a duty, Greece does not conduct a census on its own with these feelings.

This state, which does not do it itself, which does not accept minorities, has put its hands in a country", said Shpëtim Idrizi.
