The census conducted in Serbia, during the last month, for the leaders of local institutions in the Presheva Valley was a success.

"We had the goal of passing over 120,000 Albanians to the Presheva Valley, and the number of registered people is 120,000. We will see it in the further analysis", says Shqiprim Arifi, the mayor of the Municipality of Presheva, for A2 CNN.

"In the municipality of Presheva, where 99% are Albanians, we have 60,000 Albanians, a number of the success of the registration, which results from the fact that we have highly motivated Albanians everywhere to participate in the registration. In Bujanoc, we have a slightly different situation, we will see there, we are waiting, what the exact numbers are. Whereas in Medvegja we are extremely disappointed because there, the Serbian government, through the Ministry of the Interior, has continuously pressured the Albanians not to register. So there we have a little big imbalance which is the result of the policies of the passivation of Albanians for 10 years".

Arifi says that Serbia's efforts to reduce the number of Albanians were unsuccessful, because the process was supervised by the European Union.

"I strongly believe that the European Union supervises this process very well, because any intervention in these data means confrontation with our data as well, because we also have the data verified in parallel. So then we enter a situation that I don't believe will benefit either Serbia or the European Union. Because we had faith in the European Union, we were so engaged in the campaign to support the census, because if it wasn't, we would have failed from the start if we had dealt with Serbia. You see, President Vucic's statement is a nonsense statement, which belongs more to his preconceptions and imagination, as he wishes, because in the last 10 years in politics he has wished that the number of Albanians decrease and not increase . So in that regard, I will wait,

Arifi says that the results of the census will help Kosovo in negotiations with Serbia.

"Now Serbia is under pressure, first of all, but also from the international community, to meet our demands in a better and faster way. The census has shown that Albanians know how to resist, organize and show their patriotism where it should, that is, at this moment, which was the registration. With this, we have fought very strongly the process of the passivation of the Albanians in the Presheva Valley and we have fought very strongly the negligence of the European Union against the Albanians in the Presheva Valley, who are not allowing a parallelism to be made with the Serbs in Kosovo". 

The head of the Municipality of Presheva expresses his disappointment with the authorities in Albania and Kosovo, for the lack of support they have given to their compatriots during this process.

"The European Union, since the beginning of the process, compared to the government of Kosovo and Albania, has been openly supportive of the Albanians, to participate in the registration. We have no complaints against the international factor, on the contrary, I want to thank, first of all, every Albanian who participated in the registration, but also the international factor that supported us in this process. We don't have a critical point there, we will see how it will continue to develop", he says.

"I had more critical points towards Kosovo and Albania, which at no time were interested in raising the motivation of Albanians to participate in the census. In Kosovo, in the last 20 years, 400-500 million dollars have been invested in the Serbs by the Serbian government, while approximately 700,000 euros have been invested in us so far, and we expect that even 2 million euros may come to us. So if someone in Albania boasts that we have helped Lugina with 2 million or so euros, compared to 400-500 million dollars of Serbia in Kosovo, he is only deceiving himself and trying to insult our intelligence".

"When Albania is real, unfortunately, I am surprised and surprised, how could one month, the whole of October, pass with a very important process for Albanians in general, but also in particular for those who live here in the Presheva Valley and at no time, nothing, zero, no status on social media, not even a "video message", no support, no phone call, nothing else, should come at this time. I am too surprised, to be diplomatic. We have had Serbia against us, Kosovo and Albania negligent and our citizens, once again understand, you have done a masterpiece that you have participated so massively, even though Albania and Kosovo have neglected us and Serbia has fought us in this process" .
