The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, spoke from Mirdita about a process of renewal of the political force that he leads, while he also had a message for former MP Ervin Salianji, who together with Ilir Alimehmet have started a parallel tour of meetings with the grassroots.
Berisha said that everyone in the party is free to express their opinions freely, but must do so within forums.
"We can strengthen the PD, we can renew it, we can consolidate it, only when everyone has an issue with this problem. It is your proposals, your criticisms, your suggestions, the withdrawal of values from each of you in this party, that will raise this to the height of fulfilling a historical mission, the only political force in Europe that overthrew two dictatorships, and this will be the PD. We are and will remain an open party, absolutely a party of free speech and free thought. In this party, everyone will have the right to vote against. But, like any other party, it is a party with rules that are set jointly and you can never impose yourself in that way. I mean here: each of the democrats, whatever kind of thing they should have, must say it without any shyness, but within the forums. Each democrat will have the right to vote for anyone, freely, but each democrat has the obligation to now think about perfecting that process that we implemented together, as "Let's make those lists. The lists are yours, they are not Tirana's. Tirana cannot make lists. How can we make these lists more credible to each of us? How can we bring closer, each of us, a girl, a boy, a man, a woman with values, who knows it, and says: 'Come on'. We are heading towards extinction as a nation, if we do not take urgent measures," said Berisha.
Ervin Salianji and Ilir Alimehmeti, and some of the most voted Democrats in the May 11 elections, have joined forces by launching a tour of meetings with the base in cities, where they call for an opening and renewal of the Democratic Party.
