The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, held a meeting this Monday with the municipal councilors who competed under the DP logo on May 14, where he stated that they should not fall into the "numbers trap".
He added that the "filters of hypocrisy" should be removed since big numbers don't always serve big goals.
"The numbers with which they beat their chests for the citizens are more reasons to turn their backs on this political caste. It's not about numbers when it comes to accountability. This is not a matter of numbers, it is a matter of morals", said Basha, referring to the Reestablishment Democrats and the majority, who managed to gather more votes in the May 14 elections.
The chief democrat emphasized that they should be the voice of the people who think they have no voice and try to leave.
"In the elections of May 14, as a result of those reasons that all citizens know, DP was far from the result and the traditional representation in the Municipal Councils in the 61 municipalities of the country. But despite the fight from all directions of those who want to preserve this situation, they did not succeed in preventing the representation of DP in every municipal council. It is the biggest mistake to fall into the trap of numbers.
The discussion today is closed in a room dozens of times smaller than this one, it is closed in numbers, in the power of a few people. Even big numbers don't always serve big interests. Nothing that is not good for our citizens, cannot be good for DP. Those who sit for the first time as representatives of the voters, then in this hall there is not only real opposition, but more.
Over 120 voices, if they resonate for the interests of the citizens who voted for you, are not few, but many. Even more is done if we keep in mind that in this situation where the country is, there are few voices among the 140 deputies who speak about the problems of the people. We are all witnesses and guilty of the fact that today in the Albanian political debate, the elected or appointed politicians talk about all kinds of things, but little or nothing about what matters to the people", declared Basha.
