MP Gazment Bardhi, representing the Democratic Party in the meeting with the European Parliament, where, among other things, he said that SPAK's task force on electoral crimes in Albania remained only on paper.
"The representative of the European Parliament spoke about the establishment of a Task Force with the participation of SPAK, the General Prosecutor's Office and the CEC. This Task Force was set up to monitor electoral crimes and built a common institutional strategy to combat them. It was an action that should be welcomed.
But the fact is that on February 20, the Prime Minister of the country, Edi Rama, in a public appearance, asked the Special Prosecutor's Office to immediately stop any action on the ground, saying: "Do not surveil political parties, stop their persecution, do not violate the rights of the government and do not put pressure on the administration. From that moment, on February 20, 2025, until the end of the elections, it turned out that not only were the prosecutors of the Special Prosecution no longer seen on the ground, but there was no concrete result for the prevention of electoral crimes.
There may be cases under investigation and ongoing proceedings, but if we get the results of these investigations in 2030, they do not help at all in the real punishment of electoral crimes
My question to the European Commission is: in the integration process, is it more important to have concrete results, or projects written only on paper? Because what happened was a good effort that remained only on paper, in reality, it has zero results", said Bardhi.
