The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, today held a meeting in the Presidency with the Special Envoy of the British Government for the Western Balkans, Lord Stuart Peach.

According to the announcement from the Presidency, during the meeting, Begaj appreciated the attention that the British government pays to the Western Balkans region, as well as hailed the role of Lord Peach in the promotion of strong democratic institutions.

Regarding developments in Albania, the two interlocutors are said to have focused on the country's preparations for the upcoming local elections on May 14, as well as on the commitments of Albanian law enforcement institutions in the fight against organized crime.

The President of the Republic, Sh. TZ Bajram Begaj received today the British Government's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Lord Stuart Peach.

President Begaj praised the great attention that the British government pays to the Western Balkans region, as well as hailed Lord Peach's role in promoting strong democratic institutions and supporting addressing security-related challenges. Regarding the latest developments in the Balkan region, President Begaj underlined the fact that the region is going through difficult moments in terms of peace and security, also influenced by the Russian influence on some of the regional actors.

Focusing on the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, President Begaj appreciated the willingness recently demonstrated by the Kosovo authorities to welcome the proposals of international partners and underlined the necessity of reaching a comprehensive and applicable agreement between the parties as soon as possible.

Të dy bashkëbiseduesit nënvizuan rëndësinë e madhe që ka ruajtja e unitetit, solidaritetit dhe kohezionit mes vendeve anëtare të NATO-s në përballimin e efekteve të agresionit ushtarak rus në Ukrainë dhe influencave ruse në rajonin e Ballkanit Perëndimor.

Ndërsa, lidhur me zhvillimet në Shqipëri, të dy bashkëbiseduesit u ndalën tek përgatitjet e vendit për zgjedhjet e ardhshme vendore, të dates 14 maj të këtij viti, tek angazhimet e institucioneve ligjzbatuese shqiptare në luftën ndaj krimit të organizuar dhe korrupsionit, si dhe bashkëpunimin shumë të rëndësishëm me agjencitë respektive të Mbretërisë së Bashkuar, përfshirë edhe në kuadër të sigurisë kibernetike.

For his part, Lord Peach underlined the interest and increased attention of the British Government for maintaining peace and stability in the Western Balkans region, as well as appreciated the contribution of Albania as a non-permanent member country in the United Nations Security Council, especially related to the aggression in Ukraine.
