The Ambassador of the European Union in Tirana, Christiane Hohmann

The ambassador of the European Union in Tirana, Christiane Hohmann, has visited the flooded areas in Shkodër, where she was present in the Oboti area together with the mayor Bardh Spahia.

In a statement to journalists, Hohmann said that Albania is already part of the mechanization of flood protection in the EU and that the EU is there to help them in order to develop capacities in order to react as quickly as possible.

The European diplomat emphasized the measures that must be taken to prevent them, or at least minimize the consequences of floods as much as possible.

In every area, as in the whole of Albania, investments that prevent flooding should be prioritized. Together we can do better."- said the European diplomat.

Ambassador Christiane Hohmann also spoke about the cancellation of the 28 million euro grant from the EU that was made available by the Investment Fund for the Western Balkans, for the purpose of reconstructing Piers 1 & 2, in the Western Terminal of the Port of Durrës. She stated that this decision came due to the change in investment conditions.

"It is a very simple answer, the one we gave a few days ago, whenever there is a change in investment conditions, a change in the granting of investment grants, then this is canceled. This does not mean that we are not in communication to understand where the investments can be made" . Hohmann declared.

We remind you that this decision comes at a time when the government is speedily passing the new project for the transformation of the port to the parliament.
