Today marks 13 years since the event of January 21, 2011, which is one of the most painful in our country, as 4 protesters were killed on the boulevard Martyrs of the Nation. Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda and Faik Myrtaj were killed by the state, which was supposed to protect them.
When 13 years have passed, the families of the 4 victims still do not find peace. Eyes and calls are directed to SPAK to put in place the denied justice. That the orderers and enforcers receive the punishment they deserve.
Even the European Court of Human Rights, in the decision of November 14, 2023 for Aleks Nika, one of the killed protesters, argues that in the investigation of the events of January 21, 2011, there were numerous shortcomings, which raise doubts that the authorities had tried to deviate or interfere unfairly.
What happened on January 21, 2011?
What started as a peaceful protest march ended with four victims. 13 years ago, the Guard of the Republic of Albania left four of its citizens dead.
Everything started around 2:00 p.m., when the protesters walked the road from "Skenderbej" square to the Prime Minister's Office, after the police took measures not to allow any bus to continue.
The protest started after the scandal of the video Meta - Prifti, where state money was traded in private offices.
The crowd started chanting against the then Prime Minister Sali Berisha, while just a few minutes later, they started throwing stones and hard objects towards the police.
The situation has become tense after the protesters have tried to enter the courtyard of the Prime Minister's Office, while the police have protected the interior.
For a moment, gunshots began to be heard inside the territory of the Prime Minister's Office, and those shots left Hekuran Deda, Ziver Veiz, Faik Myrtaj and Aleks Nikaj dead.
The latter, after preliminary treatment at the Tirana Military Hospital, was sent for further treatment to Turkey, where he died after a few days.
Prime Minister Berisha appeared at a press conference, stating that they wanted to stage a coup, while the opposition stated that the state, through the segments of the Republic Guard and the State Police, killed four innocent Albanian citizens and drowned them in blood. a peaceful demonstration, which is a constitutional right of the citizen.
The Socialist Party has accused the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior of ordering the murders. But Berisha did not stop only with the accusations against the SP, he harshly attacked the Prosecutor's Office, SHISH and the President of the Republic, who, according to him, wanted to overthrow him by force.
The court assessed that the murders of Ziver Veiz, Faik Myrtaj and Hekuran Dedaj happened due to carelessness and sentenced the former commander of the Guard, Ndrea Prendi to one year in prison, as well as the guard Agim Llupo to 3 years. Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj, Hekuran Deda and Aleks Nika were declared "Martyrs of the Motherland" at the 10th commemoration.
So the family members of the victims are asking for nothing but justice.
