A 44-year-old man has been arrested by the Shkodra Police after he was caught transporting 3 citizens of African origin in a vehicle, who were intending to illegally cross the border to Montenegro.

The 44-year-old with the initials Gj. U., a resident of Shkodra, was stopped overnight on the national road near the Hani i Hoti border crossing.

According to the police, the three foreign citizens did not have identification documents and are suspected of having entered Albanian territory illegally.

The arrest was made as part of the operation codenamed "Destination", conducted by the Trafficking Investigation Section at the Shkodra Police Department.

The police seized the vehicle in which the three foreign citizens were being transported, while the materials were passed on to the Prosecutor's Office for further action.

"DVP Shkodra/The operation codenamed "Destinationi" is being finalized, to crack down on the criminal activity of providing assistance to foreign citizens for illegal border crossing.      

3 foreign citizens were caught near the Hani i Hotit checkpoint, while transporting them by vehicle, intending to illegally cross into the territory of Montenegro, the 44-year-old was arrested in flagrante delicto.   

The vehicle in which the 3 foreign citizens were being transported has been seized.     

Specialists of the Trafficking Investigation Section of the Shkodra Police Department, in continuation of their work to identify and crack down on cases of providing assistance to foreign citizens for illegal border crossing, based on the information provided, organized and finalized the operation codenamed "Destination".     

As part of this operation, citizen Gj. U., 44 years old, resident of Shkodra, was arrested in flagrante delicto. 

This citizen was arrested by the Police services, during the night, on the national road near the Hani i Hotit BCP, while transporting in his vehicle, 3 citizens of African origin, who intended to illegally cross into the territory of Montenegro. The 3 foreign citizens did not have identification documents and are suspected of having entered the territory of the Republic of Albania illegally.  

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action."
