Albanian political entities from Presheva, Bujanovac and Medveđa will compete together in Serbia's extraordinary parliamentary elections.
The news was announced by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, after a meeting held on Tuesday evening at the Prime Minister's Office in Pristina.
"Today, at the Prime Minister's Office, representatives of participating political entities from Presheva, Bujanovac and Medveđa reached an agreement on the joint list of the Albanian Coalition for the October 25 parliamentary elections in Serbia," he wrote.
Kurti thanked the representatives of political entities for their willingness to cooperate despite political differences, but assessed that political unity in the "Albanian Coalition" is not enough due to the asymmetry of rights in Serbia.
"Serbs in Kosovo are guaranteed 10 out of 120 seats in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, and with this approach, Albanians from Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja should have at least 5 guaranteed seats in the Parliament of Serbia," he wrote.
Kurti has pledged to continue to stand by the Albanians of Presheva, Bujanovac and Medvedja, emphasizing that the commitment of institutions will continue for the rights, identity and well-being of the citizens of the Presheva Valley.
Otherwise, a similar attempt to politically unite the Albanians of the Presheva Valley was made in 2020, when former Albanian Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj mediated the agreement between Albanian parties for the joint list "Albanian Democratic Alternative - United Valley" which then won two mandates.
