Sweden has made a "surprise" for the children who have returned to school. Instead of the tablets introduced in recent years, on the tables they found paper books, notebooks, sheets of paper and pens that their parents used, writes "Il Messaggero".
The new Minister of Education, Carlotta Edholm, with these rules reversed the trend of the past years, in which digital tools had already been introduced almost everywhere.
What convinced the minister were the results of the "Progress in International Reading Literacy Study" (PIRLS), an international survey that is repeated every 5 years and that measures the reading ability of students between the ages of nine and ten.
In 2021, Swedes had a drop of 11 points compared to 2016 (from 555 to 544).
One of the reasons, according to experts, would have been precisely the excessive use of digital tools that leave less time for reflection and the need to make oneself aware of the slowness that this mental process requires.
