The rock star, who was secretly filmed dancing intimately with the Finnish prime minister, has insisted they are not in a relationship.

Olavi Uusivirta, 28, claimed he and Prime Minister Sanna Marin, 36, are just 'friends' and 'nothing inappropriate' had happened between them.

Footage that emerged on Friday showed the pair dancing at 4am in a Helsinki nightclub, just a stone's throw from the country's Parliament building.

The video showed Ms Marin, who is married to Markus Raikkonen, wrapping her arms around the singer.

He was seen putting his face on her neck at one point in the video, a gesture that some Finnish media have claimed was a kiss.

Witnesses told Finnish media that she danced with two other men in a similar fashion and sat on the laps of two others during the night.

But Finnish singer-songwriter Uusivirta, who divorced his wife last year, dismissed any suspicion that he was in a relationship with Finland's leader.

In a post on his social media accounts, he said: "There has been public speculation about the quality of the relationship between me and Prime Minister Sanna Marin."

"I can say with my hand on my heart that: We are friends and nothing inappropriate has happened. I will no longer comment publicly on this matter. Have a nice day".

Such appearance of the prime minister has ignited a debate in Finland whether she should appear in this way and socialize with friends in clubs.

Some commentators have accused him of behavior that is unbecoming of a world leader. While, many others are more relaxed and say that he deserves to enjoy life, like everyone else.
