Vassilis Karras, believed that happiness is not hidden in money, but money is also necessary for a person to make his life easier. In his dealings he was loyal and honest, but always demanded the fees he thought he deserved, making tough and intelligent negotiations.
For many years, Karras was independent, for many years he worked hard, managing to become one of the most popular singers and create a relatively good fortune.
All this wealth was discovered not far from yesterday after the reading of his will, the wealth that Karras left to his wife and daughter exceeds 10 million euros, real estate and cash.
He was born and raised in poverty. In a shack, in Kokkinnohori Kavalle, next to a stream, which collapsed when it rained heavily. As a child he did everything to help his family. He worked in construction, in the fields, sold pretzels and lottery tickets and ate bread with a little oil to satisfy his hunger.
However, Karras never gave up whatever he set out to do, he made sure to do it well. He excelled as a car mechanic, a profession he took up in his youth, but as a singer he triumphed, changed the parameters of night entertainment and raised the night job to heights that seemed unattainable until then.
He made his first money in the second half of the 70s, when he was singing in Germany.
He demanded and received high fees
Returning to Thessaloniki, sometime in the early 80s, he could not and did not want to compromise with the 1700 drachmas per night that the shopkeepers were giving at that time.
In Germany he earned 10 times more, but he could not help but fulfill the desire of his girlfriend Kristina to build a stable and permanent home for the new family they had created.
But because he knew the inside of the night, had a complete picture of the turnover of each store, understood where the most money came from, and did his public relations, he moved methodically to secure the rates that thought that he deserved them by right.
And he succeeded, as he was the first singer to receive a percentage of broken dishes, as his name and fame grew, he also began to demand higher fees.
From the most famous bars in Thessaloniki to those in the countryside where money "flowed like a river", when Karras was on stage. When others were getting 600 drachmas, Karras made up to ten thousand drachmas a night.
Irini village
Among the real estate assets of Vassilis Karras, according to his will, was the detached house where he lived in Thessaloniki, a luxury apartment in Athens, a holiday home by the sea and also the property in the place where he was born and raised, Kokkinohor Kavala.
There, on the land he soaked with his sweat as a child, on the slope of Kardias hill, overlooking Thermaikos, he created the " Village of Peace ", an earthly paradise, with lots of greenery, swimming pools , tennis , a parking lot with 4000 spaces , event hall , restaurant , folklore museum , which simultaneously gave its visitors the opportunity to get to know agriculture and animal husbandry closely. However, maintenance costs were high and the financial crisis made things even more difficult.
