The ex-husband of the late singer Amy Winehouse, Blake Fielder-Civil, has publicly admitted that he bears some responsibility for the path that led to her death, emphasizing, however, that he should not be considered solely to blame.
The British artist died in 2011, at the age of 27, as a result of excessive alcohol consumption. At the time, Blake Fielder-Civil was widely criticized by public opinion and the media, who accused him of influencing her involvement with hard drugs, such as heroin and cocaine.
In a recent interview on the We Need to Talk podcast, he spoke openly about their relationship and the singer's untimely loss.
"I know that many people believe that her death is my responsibility. I do not shirk responsibility for what I did," he said, admitting that he played a role in the developments that led to the tragedy.
However, he stressed that Amy Winehouse was a strong and independent personality, who made her own decisions.
"Amy had her own will. No disrespect, she did what she wanted," he added.
Blake Fielder-Civil also stated that he has reached a kind of reconciliation with the past, but insisted that it is unfair to be considered solely responsible for the singer's tragic end.
Their relationship attracted significant media attention and was considered one of the most turbulent chapters in Amy Winehouse's life. The pair dated for several years after her split from Tyler James and went through numerous breakups and reunions.
After a brief period of separation, during which the singer had an affair with Alex Clare, she returned to Blake Fielder-Civil and married him in 2007. However, their marriage proved problematic, accompanied by substance addiction, public scandals, and numerous health problems.
The situation worsened with concert cancellations and hospitalizations, until in 2009, Blake Fielder-Civil filed for divorce, finally ending their relationship.
