"El Nino" is gone, expected to be replaced by "La Nina"

The El Nino weather phenomenon will end in June this year, while there is a possibility that during the second half of the year, it will be replaced by the La Nina phenomenon, according to a US government meteorologist.

Based on the monthly forecast from the Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center, the chances of La Nina occurring are as high as 49%. All of this is expected to take place during the June-August period, then increasing to 69% during the July-September period.

These meteorological changes are important because the cycle between them can cause wildfires, tropical cyclones and prolonged droughts, which are vital to farmers around the world.

Previously, in Latin America, they have affected crops such as wheat, soybeans and corn, damaging regional economies that are often directly dependent on agriculture.

Last year, hot and dry weather in Asia during the El Nino phenomenon caused major rice supplier India to limit exports, while wheat production in Australia also took a hit.

So heavier rains in parts of the Americas boosted farm production prospects in Argentina and the southern US.

This complete weather pattern that includes El Nino, La Nina and a neutral phase usually lasts between two and seven years.

Experts have warned that Latin American nations should be on high alert as a quick transition to La Nina this time around could have a negative impact, leaving populations and crops little time to recover.

In an announcement last month, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology said the El Nino event had ended.

According to experts, "La Nina" is likely to affect the production of wheat and corn in the US, and soybeans, barley, wheat and corn in Latin America, including Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

The weather phenomenon is associated with long-term droughts across the Americas region, causing poor crop quality and a decline in average yield, impacting the deterioration of global supply.
