George Clooney is back at the Venice Film Festival, at the opening ceremony, this time to be honored with the "Golden Lion" for his career achievements.
During the press conference, the 65-year-old actor and director also spoke about the political situation in the US, freedom of expression, but also about the increasing impact of Artificial Intelligence on the film industry.
Asked about the political climate in the United States, Clooney expressed optimism, despite the difficult period.
"I'm always very optimistic about things and we are in a period that is uncomfortable and I think that's a very mild way to describe it. However, I believe that we will get through this period too," he declared.
But the topic that garnered the most attention was Artificial Intelligence and its impact on the Hollywood job market. Clooney warned that the technology could eliminate a significant number of jobs, especially in the field of visual effects.
"It's going to hurt us in a lot of ways. If you're a visual effects supervisor, you're going to face difficulties because a lot of these jobs are going to disappear. Probably about 30% of the jobs," he said.
Clooney also humorously addressed the potential impact of AI on his image after his death.
"I wouldn't want my image to be used through AI in a tampon commercial 20 years after my death," the actor said.
Finally, Clooney also spoke about his age and personal life. Referring to his 65th birthday, he said that as the years go by, everything takes on a more melancholic tone. However, he stressed that he feels very lucky for the life he has built.
"I have a wonderful wife, who I love very much and who loves me, I have wonderful children and I still get to work when I want. Life is pretty good," Clooney said.
George Clooney is one of Hollywood's most popular actors, directors, and producers, with a career spanning more than four decades.
