France will conduct an experiment to ban mobile phones in schools for students up to the age of 15.

The experiment will initially be extended to about 200 gymnasiums. Students up to the age of 15 will be required to hand in their cell phones when they go to school.

The French government considers this initiative a "digital holiday". If the experiment is successful, then this initiative will be extended to all schools in France starting from January.

A commission set up by President Emmanuel Macron expressed concern that children's exposure to mobile screens has a harmful effect on their health.

A 140-page report published in March by this commission came out with a broad consensus on the negative effects of mobile phone use by children.

According to this report, children should not be given a mobile phone at least until the age of 11, from the age of 11-13 a mobile phone without internet access and from the age of 15 they can be given a mobile phone with internet but without access to networks social.

The report also suggested that children under the age of 3 should not be exposed to digital devices at all because they are not necessary for their healthy development.
