Since the creation of money as a medium of exchange, thousands of years have passed, and during this time some things have become symbolic of money without understanding why.
From the fact that it is called "currency", to why savings boxes are shaped like a piggy bank, these are 10 curious facts about money.
Pay and salaries
In Neolithic societies, the first exchanges were made by placing a value on different objects or living things: a sheep could be exchanged for four chickens. But, with the progress and specialization of the economy (already someone made clothes, someone raised animals, someone cultivated), the need arose to create an equal means of exchange for everyone. The most used in the East was tea, the living thing, and salt, with which the Roman soldiers were paid.
However, as time went on, the compulsion was felt to find objects that would stand the test of time, that could be taken apart and transported easily. After shells, the next solution turned to more precious metals such as gold and silver, with which the first coins were created.
The first coins
The coin debuted in the seventh century BC in Lydia (Turkey), where King Gyges created an object of gold and silver, guaranteed in weight and size, thus in value.
The word currency
The term used for the first money arose after the creation of the currency itself. It takes its name from the Roman god Juno Moneta. The geese, loyal to her, warned the population about the night attacks of the enemies with their screams. Coin comes from the Latin "monere", which means warning.
Taxes and currencies
According to Charles Goodhart, money was an invention of the state in order to make money, income and expenditure more measurable, thanks to the equal weight of coins. It also became easier to impose taxation.

The most expensive dollar
In 1945, the US produced a $10,000 bill with the portrait of Salmon Chase, the US secretary of the treasury under Lincoln. In 1969, this banknote was withdrawn from circulation, but it is estimated that 336 of these are still in circulation.
Silver burracak

With 30 of these coins, Judas betrayed Jesus. They were the monthly salary of a worker.
The medalists
The most widely used metal coins in the world were designed by medalists, known only by their coins, despite the wide distribution of their works. The 1 penny coin with the portrait of Abraham Lincoln was created by Victor David Brenner.
Piglets

The oldest piggy bank in the world has been discovered in Turkey, and it is more than 2 thousand years old. However, its connection with the shape of a pig only dates back to the 700s. Researchers believe that the shape comes from a play on words between the constituent material "pygg" and the word pig "pig".
ATMs
There are over 1.6 million ATMs worldwide. There is even one in Antarctica. Friday is the day when they are most frequented.
Drawing the sides
Until 1600 the sides of the coins were smooth. But the scientist Isaac Newton invented side scoring, so that the sides would not be smoothed to earn a little of the gold or silver coins. With this scoring system, it was immediately noticeable if the sides were smoothed.
