Iranian official: Israel has brought in Western mediators to ask for a ceasefire
Iran / Israel

Israel has reportedly used Western mediators to urge Iran to enter ceasefire negotiations.

A senior Iranian source told NBC News in Tehran that Israel had signaled an interest in halting missile attacks and resuming nuclear negotiations.

A representative for the Israeli prime minister did not respond to a request for comment on reports of behind-the-scenes talks.

This news comes as Donald Trump called today for Israel and Iran to make a deal before leaving for the G7 in Canada today.

The US president wrote on his Truth Social platform: "Iran and Israel must make a deal and will make a deal, just as I made India and Pakistan do, in that case using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion and common sense to talks with two great leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!"

He added: Likewise, we will soon have PEACE between Israel and Iran! A lot of calls and meetings are taking place right now. I do a lot and never get credit for anything, but that's okay, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!"
