Zelensky travels to England to meet with Sunak

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in the UK today to meet Rishi Sunak and Ukrainian troops.

Sky News writes that this is his first visit to the United Kingdom since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year. He has made only one other trip outside Ukraine since then, when he went to the United States and stopped in Poland just before Christmas.

Zelensky and Sunak will discuss UK support for Ukraine, starting with an immediate increase in the number of military equipment.

The UK will also announce further Russian sanctions today, targeting those who have helped Vladimir Putin build his personal fortune, and companies profiting from this war.

In December, Sunak traveled to Kiev for the first time since becoming prime minister in October, where he promised a £50m package to strengthen Ukraine's air defences. Today he is expected to announce support for Ukrainian troops, including fighter pilots and the start of a training program for marines.
