22-year-old Samuel Newey

A British volunteer has been killed during the fighting against the Russian army in Ukraine.

22-year-old Samuel Newey had been in Ukraine for over a year, fighting alongside the local forces.

The sad news was announced by his brother through a post on Facebook where he wrote: "My little brother Sam was killed during the fighting in Eastern Ukraine. I have no words to describe how hurt I am."

Samuel Newey had just turned 21 when he decided to travel to Ukraine "to oppose Russian imperialism," his brother wrote in a Facebook post.

"Not only are you my little brother, but you are an incredible man, a fine soldier, and one of the bravest men I have ever had the privilege of knowing," his brother wrote.

"Thank you very much for being part of my life for these 22 years. I love you always brother".
