Today, the European Union again called on Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia for its aggression against Ukraine, after Belgrade hosted Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Grushko.
"The European Union has been crystal clear with our partners: relations with Russia cannot be normal with Russia's unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine," said EU spokesman Peter Stano.
He added that the EU Council recognizes Serbia's humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but also expects Serbia, as a candidate country for EU membership, to align itself with the European foreign and security policy.
Thus, the US State Department stated that the United States "does not believe that any country should have given Russia a platform to promote its war of aggression against Ukraine".
"The countries of the Western Balkans, as well as all of Europe, have a deep interest in the outcome of the Russian war against Ukraine, which threatens the foundations of international order and security. That is why it is essential that we continue to stand together in the face of Russian aggression," the State Department said.
The US appreciated the support that Serbia has provided to Ukraine so far.
