According to an official UN estimate, the world's population has exceeded 8 billion.

Reuters reports that the 8 billionth person on Earth is little Elias, the child of parents Alia and Karim.

He is the youngest inhabitant of this planet, born at the Charite hospital in Berlin, Germany, on the day when the world's population is estimated to have reached 8 billion.

The United Nations calls this an important milestone in human development and a reminder, at the culmination of the COP27 summit, of our shared responsibility to care for our planet.
