Armenia has issued accusations against Azerbaijan that its army has attacked Armenian positions on the border with Baku.
The event is thought to have happened on Monday evening and fortunately no one was injured.
"At 20:00, units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan opened fire with small arms of various calibers in the direction of Armenian positions located in the eastern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. There were no losses from the Armenian side", says the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, according to which for the moment the situation has become relatively stable.
The two countries have fought two wars and experienced regular smaller conflicts over three decades.
At the heart of the dispute is the Nagorno-Karabakh region. According to internationally recognized borders, it is part of Azerbaijan, but is populated by ethnic Armenians. Cultural divisions extend beyond politics to religious belief as well.
