Historical member of the Greek socialist party, PASOK and former foreign minister and deputy prime minister under PASOK governments, Theodoros Pangalos, died today at the age of 84.

Pangalos opposed the military dictatorship of 1967 and was stripped of his Greek citizenship by the junta in 1968.

Who was Theodhoros Pangalos

He was the grandson of the former general of the Greek dictator Theodhoros Pangalos, he was one of the most famous and powerful politicians of Greece, who always spoke openly about his Arvanite origins. Founder of the left-wing party PASOK, he was a member of parliament with many consecutive mandates, vice-president of the government of Jorgo Papandreou from October 7, 2009 to May 17, 2012, and at the same time the country's supplementary prime minister.

Theodhoros Pangalos was the Foreign Minister of Greece during the mandate of Kostas Simitis (January 22, 1996 – February 19, 1999), as well as Deputy Foreign Minister for several consecutive terms throughout the period (June 5, 1985 – July 8, 1994), a period when Pangalos has exercised too much attention in the relations with Albania.

In fact, during his visit to Albania, he declared in the local media that we are "one face, one race" with the Albanians.

Pangalos was a connoisseur of the Arvanite language and a scholar of the Arvanite language and culture, a background he never hid.
