Kurti: Forces outside Kosovo want to escalate the situation in the north

Police forces were sent to northern Kosovo to ensure that the new mayors continued their work after legitimate elections. This is what the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said at the forum in Bratislava where he is participating.

"When these mayors elected from the April elections had to go to their offices, which were empty because the Serbs had withdrawn from the management of these municipalities, they were prevented. Our police forces were sent to ensure the continuation of the work of the elected mayors.

Asked if this situation could be avoided, Kurti said that there are forces outside of Kosovo that want to incite clashes and demand that the situation in the north escalate. According to him, these are violent people who support Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We have 38 municipalities in Kosovo and there is a normal situation in them. What happened in the 4 municipalities in the north of the country is not happening. There are external forces, i.e. outside of Kosovo, who want to incite violent clashes, a tense situation so that the situation escalates. We see violent people expressing support, adoration for Putin. Some of them were policemen in Serbia, had police uniforms while serving the state of Serbia. They came to Kosovo to carry out violent actions".

As for the Kosovo police, Kurti said that it "is carrying out a professional work to ensure European standards of the operation of local institutions in Kosovo. There have been violent actions against the Kosovar police these days."
