The wrong order of the director of the station of Larissa for the driver caused the tragedy in Greece, where 44 people were killed, but the balance may deepen as the fate of 19 people is still unknown.

The Greek media have discovered the conversations between the driver of the train with citizens, Intercity 62, and the director of the station of Larissa, who instructs him to continue the journey from Thessaloniki.

In fact, railway sources said, the station manager had not even realized that the train had entered the opposite track, so he had no chance to correct his mistake in the few minutes remaining.

Machinist: Do you hear me?
Station Manager: I hear you. With number 47, cross the red exit traffic light at the new Poros entrance traffic light.
Machinist: Basil, are you leaving?
Station Manager: You're leaving, you're leaving.

Machinist: Done.
Station Manager: No luck.
Machinist: Do I have to go back?
Stationmaster: No, not as you are because 1564 follows.
Machinist: Okay, I'll leave it as it is, diagonally.

This brief conversation reveals what really happened: the driver asked the stationmaster if he should turn the switch straight for the train to continue on the normal line, no problem.

However, the station manager told him he should use the diagonal, which he did. But then the stationmaster forgot to turn the switch, so the Intercity went into 'reverse current'. This caused the tragic collision with the freight train.

The stationmaster, after initially claiming he had put the train on the right tracks "but disobeyed the system", admitted his fatal mistake under questioning and faces a serious charge of murder.
