A macabre event has shocked the United Arab Emirates, where a Russian couple was kidnapped and brutally murdered after being lured with the promise of a meeting with "investors." The victims are Roman Novak, 38, and his wife Anna, who had been living in Dubai for years and displayed a luxurious life with sports cars and private jet travel on social media.

The couple disappeared a month ago after travelling to the mountain resort of Hatta. According to the investigation, their personal driver had taken them to a parking lot near the lake, where they were then transferred to another vehicle. Moments later, Novak sent a desperate message: “I am stuck in the mountains, near the Omani border, I urgently need 152 thousand pounds.” After that, contact was cut off.

Their dismembered bodies were later found buried in a desert area. Russian and Dubai authorities identified three Russian suspects, a former homicide investigator and two former fighters from the war in Ukraine, as the perpetrators. They allegedly kidnapped the couple to get the password to Novak's cryptocurrency wallet, which turned out to be empty.

Russian media reports that Novak was under investigation for crypto fraud involving £38 million, while after his death, the couple's children were taken into custody by Anna's parents.
